Gianna Johnson began curling at the age of eight and quickly discovered a passion for the sport that continues to drive her competitive success today. Curling out of the Four Seasons Curling Club in Blaine, Minnesota, Gianna has developed into a poised and strategic player known for her shot-making ability and strong communication on the ice.
Her competitive journey accelerated during the 2021 season, and in 2022 she made her first appearance at the U18 National Championships in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Since then, Gianna has steadily built an impressive résumé at both the U18 and U21 levels. She has earned multiple national medals, including bronze finishes at the U18 and U21 National Championships, followed by a silver medal at the U21 Mixed Doubles Nationals in 2024.
The 2024–2025 season marked a major breakthrough. Gianna helped lead Team Johnson to both U18 and U21 National Championship titles, earning the opportunity to represent the United States internationally at the 2025 World Junior-B Women’s Curling Championship, where the team captured a silver medal and qualified the U.S. for the 2026 World Junior Women’s Championship. That same season, the team also won the Olympic Pre-Trials event, securing a berth in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials — a rare accomplishment for a junior team.
Gianna primarily plays the third position, where her tactical awareness, composure, and confident shot execution consistently strengthen her team’s performance. In 2025, she became the first recipient of the Outstanding National Performance Award, honoring her remarkable impact on the national stage. The award recognizes athletes whose historic achievements, standout performances across multiple championships, or breakthrough seasons elevate expectations and leave a lasting impression on the curling community.
In addition to women’s team play, Gianna has competed in mixed fours and mixed doubles events, further expanding her competitive experience at the national level.
Off the ice, Gianna enjoys snowboarding, spending time with friends, and exploring new places. Whether traveling for competition or enjoying downtime, she values staying active and making the most of every opportunity.
